With sensitivity to power dynamics in various aspects within the capitalistic landscape, my attention lands on affective dimensions that carries either violent or formative forces, holding the potential to change the trajectories of each living being as part of an inextricably linked ecosystem. I sense in my daily observations the precarity of our being conditioned by hyperbolic expansion of human knowledges and modern way of sustaining life. That catalyze my desire to seek for alternative modes of being, relating to other bodies and the world, distanced from accustomed that is shaped by colonial and anthropocentric perspectives. My artistic practice is a collection of re-imaginations of alternative domestic and ecological landscapes for coexistence. Often in the form of site-responsive installations, sculptural furniture, sound, photography, scent, or performative everyday gestures, the works engage the senses beyond the visual. I see my works as attempts to restore the rhythm and weight of our existence by offering soft meeting points of different bodies that carry possibilities to envelop or inhabit the visitors in that momentary space. Through these attempts I seek the possibility that life and art can be entangled as one. ( &nbsp;&nbsp; )와의 협력적 의사소통 &nbsp; &nbsp;양수영은 조각 매체를 중심으로 작업을 개진하며 느껴온 물리적 한계에 대해 고민한다. 그는 조각이라는 것이 일방향성, 그러니까 완성된 결과물만을 놓고 보여줄 수밖에 없는 작품의 유통 방식에 대해 반문하며 작업과 사물, 공간, 재료 그리고 나아가 관객과의 관계가 순환할 수 있는 방식을 고민한다. 현재의 시점에서 그가 선택한 재료인 나무는 완전히 통제할 수 없는 재료이다. 덩어리를 깎아내려 형상을 찾아야 하고, 일정 정도는 나무의 결과 패턴을 결코 무시할 수 없는, 즉 따라가야만 하는 성질을 가진다. 나무라는 재료가 갖는 고유성이 한편으로는 제약이 되는 셈인데, 작가는 “이러한 재료의 특성이 한계로 다가올 때, 재료와 나의 관계가 수평적으로 다가온다”고 말한다. 나무(의 제약)와 작가(의 행위) 사이의 균형 지점에서 작업은 완성된다.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;그는 견고해 보이는 것들보다 결, 무늬, 털, 천, 해수면, 손, 종이 등과 같이 온도를 가지고 있으며 부드럽고 유연한, 가변적인 것들을 조각하기를 즐긴다. 모양이 잘 안잡히고 흐트러지는 것, 기억이나 소리, 빛, 냄새 등 비물질적인 요소(&lt;Humming Chair&gt;, &lt;사소한 평화&gt;)를 물질/조각으로 치환시켜보고 시각적으로 붙잡아 내려는 그의 시도는 제시보단 암시를 향해 기운다. 이는 조각이라는 매체가 태생적으로 가질 수밖에 없는 완고한 완결성으로부터 벗어나 시각 외의 (추상적) 감각을 경유해 나아간다. 그것은 완성형이라기보다는 진행형에 가깝고 그렇기에 이미 규정된 것에서 정답을 찾기보다는 언제든지 변화할 수 있는 가능성을 품은 미지의 것이자 호기심의 원형에 근접한다고 볼 수 있을 것이다.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;이번 전시 출품작 &lt;Humming Chair&gt;를 살펴보자. 이 작업은 “앉기” 위한 실용적 목적과 기능을 지닌 사물의 속성을 존중하되 그 안에 조각을 틈입시켜 사물이 가져온 기능과 위계를 흐트러뜨린다. 소파라는 기성 사물과 나무로 새긴 자그마한 셔츠 조각을 단서 삼아 우리는 ‘소파에 앉아있는 인물'을 떠올릴 수 있겠다. 그러나 ‘어떤' 인물일까? 이때부터 작업을 앞에 둔 상상은 시작된다. 그는&nbsp;&lt;Humming Chair&gt;를 통해 사물에 앉은 인물이 상상되기를 바라는 마음을 담지만 그것이 특정인으로 귀속되는 것이 아닌, 복수의/미지의 인물이기를 바라며 (개인의 특성이 가장 잘 드러나는 부위인) 얼굴을 배제한다. 그렇게 그의 작업은 (기능적) 사물에 (비기능적) 조각을 얹어 사물/조각을 대하는 사람들의 관습(적 사고)을 건드리고, 이로부터 자유를 부여한다. 그것은 눈에 보이지 않는 것을 상상하게 하는 ‘가능성의 상태’ 에 놓이게 되고, 작가가 생각하는 사물 혹은 조각, 객체와 주체인 나 사이의 균형, 평등한 상태는 유지된다. 사물에 조각을 얹어 인식 너머의 상상을 부추기는 그의 작업은 작은 점을 이어 마침내 전체가 되는 별자리를 그리는 일과 닮아있다.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;나는 양수영의 작업을 살피며 문득 올리버 색스(Oliver Sacks)의&nbsp;『아내를 모자로 착각한 남자』의 P 선생이 떠올랐다. 시각 인식 능력을 상실한 그는 음악을 통해서 객체를 인지한다. “표상으로서의 세계를 완전히 상실했지만 음악, 즉 의지로서의 세계를 완전하게 파악4하는” P선생이 인지하고 그려내는 세계를 우리는 온전히 알 수 없다. 그러나 음악, 움직임 등 비시각적 감각과 정보를 통해 세계와 대상을 인지하는 그에게서 양수영의 작업이 향하는 방향을 겹쳐 보지
